The village name comes from the title of Charles Kingsley's novel Westward Ho!. The village is a seaside resort of North Devon. The long sandy each extends for nearly 3 miles to the mouth of the Taw and Torridge estuary. The pebble ridge that separates the beach from the grazing marsh behind (Northam Burrows), is notable for the beautiful, large grey pebbles. While is is possible to surf here, the waves are fairly slow. Northam Burrows Country Park is a great place for walking and there is a golf course here. Westward Ho! village has typical seaside attractions.
