Blackadon is part of the Holne Chase SSSI and is held by the Devon Wildlife Trust on a lease. It is also a common with rights of grazing. The 37 hectares of the nature reserve extend for one mile along the west bank of the River Webburn. Blackadon Tor, the highest point of the reserve, is surrounded by open grassland containing some dense areas of gorse and bracken, while the steep slopes which drop down to the river are thickly wooded. Resident wildlife include Otter and Goosander on the river, while the woodland supports rare butterflies including the High Brown Fritillary
